It also preserves the historical heritage of beekeeping through its unique collection of artefacts. The Challenge
As a long-standing client of WebBox, the Eva Crane Trust (ECT) recognised that their existing website no longer met current-day standards for performance and usability. With an increasing focus on enhancing page speed, user experience, and accessibility, the Trust sought to modernise its digital presence to better serve its audience.
Additionally, the Trust’s grant application process was predominantly offline, creating inefficiencies and a disjointed experience for applicants and administrators alike. ECT aimed to explore digital solutions to streamline this process, improve transparency, and better align with their mission of supporting global apicultural research.
The Solution
To address the challenges, WebBox delivered a solution that modernised the Eva Crane Trust’s digital presence while preserving the integrity of its extensive data. By building on the existing CMS, we avoided the complexity and cost of migrating tens of thousands of bee bole and museum records, ensuring seamless continuity for both the Trust and its users.
The website underwent a complete design and user experience overhaul, focusing on showcasing the impactful projects supported by ECT and driving engagement from new grant applicants. Central to this transformation was the creation of a fully digital grant application process. Applicants can now submit requests online, and Trustees have access to a bespoke dashboard for managing, reviewing, and responding to applications. This innovative system even facilitates internal Trustee communications, streamlining decision-making before finalising responses to applicants.
The updated website is fully optimised for compatibility across all devices and browsers, achieving a page speed score of over 80% at launch, ensuring a fast and accessible experience for all users.
